Background
Bridget Anderson is an adaptable and dynamic business leader with significant experience driving change and growth across a variety of organizations. Bridget had been with KPMG LLP for over thirty years and a KPMG Partner for over 25 years, and in 2019 she retired to launch her board career. In order to accelerate her career transition, Bridget chose to join In Touch and has since gained 2 board roles; one with a telemedicine company and the other with a start up in the Managed Revenue and Medical Billing industry.
In Touch caught up with Bridget to talk about her journey, and discover what resources she leveraged to gain her initial success.
What has Bridget gained from working with In Touch?
Through the use of In Touch’s learning and development resources, Bridget has been able to expand her knowledge on topics such as effective board governance and interview techniques. She also discovered which boards would be the right fit for her at this early stage, explaining that working within a small company is highly beneficial as it allows her to gain in depth experience in the role, “smaller boards allow you to get your hands dirty and allow you to learn more.”
How did Bridget find these 2 board opportunities?
Bridget explained that she received interest from CEOS and Founders searching for board members through her extended LinkedIn network. As a Retired Partner from KPMG, she had a lot of interest from individuals looking for financial experts and audit committee members.
Bridget accredited this new interest on LinkedIn to In Touch’s writing team who provided her with advice on how to improve her online profile to appeal to board members and CEOs. “I was advised to transition my profile into board language, and I included information about being able to serve on an audit committee”.
After receiving an initial offer to join her first board, Bridget decided the organization was not a compatible fit at this time after conducting thorough due diligence, highlighting the importance of ensuring your goals are aligned with the organization’s mission.
What does Bridget like most about the 2 boards she has joined?
Bridget mentioned that she is highly impressed with the backgrounds of the other board members on both boards. Having all come from long c-suite careers and running multi-million dollar businesses, they provide her with a variety of experience and expertise to work alongside. She also noted that on one board she is the only female, but on the other it is a majority female board, allowing her to work with different dynamics and personalities to enhance her experiences.
She explained that she finds the challenges and taking part in building both businesses alongside their CEOs to be a highly rewarding opportunity.
What is next for Bridget
Bridget feels like she has achieved a lot of success in her first year of being a member of In Touch. She mentioned that she is not going to accept any more board positions just yet because she wants to make sure she can dedicate the right amount of time to the two boards she is currently on.
Moving forward, her plan is to consider larger private or public company boards to add to her portfolio. Looking forward to growing her board career, Bridget will continue to utilize the In Touch resources to reach further success in her achievements.
